Paint colour confusion
Can anyone help me with the following please? The paint code on my VIN plate on the car says JEL Wedgewood Blue, however I used the Rover info site and that says my paint code is JBH also Wedgewood Blue. I took the front bumper in to get a respray and the bodyshop say it is listed as Icelandic Blue (is that even a Rover colour?), I examined the colour swab myself and can confirm the Icelandic colour is identical. I even took it to another bodyshop and they confirmed Icelandic Blue. What is going on here?

Steve, as your car is a Cowley built car, it's JEL Wedgwood, Longbridge cars are generally JBH, Wedgwood 2 as mine is. Never heard of Icelandic blue

Thanks for that, I'm even more confused now as I thought Longbridge was MUM, does that mean there are 3 Wedgewood blues? JEL, JBH and MUM?

Various car makers have used "identical" colours and called them different names, one car maker's Wedgewood Blue may well be another car maker's Icelandic Blue. The pigment mix may well be the same.

OOops my bad. Sorry folks I got confused because a few years ago I bought a spare door and it has "Pint code MUM" written on it, so I assumed it was refering to the paint on the door which is Wedgewood, but not the right shade for my car (JEL) so I assumed that Wedgewood was JEL and MUM - wrongly.
Still the info site says JBH but the VIN say JEL. I am not sure but on further investigation, I think Icelandic blue may be a Land Rover colour, I am sure it's the right shade though as I checked it myself with the colour swab yetserday. Interestingly Land Rover do a colour touch up kit for JEL!

The info site you are using is lifted from the build data records (and no connection with us here at the owners club I might add) the guy who uploaded it for that site has not taken into account the two different colour shades used at Cowley and Longbridge, and as the records only Originally listed it as 'Wedgwood Blue' for both sets of cars, the site authors have added the same single three letter code for both
The club's build records are somewhat more accurate |
