whats the correct grease to use on caliper slider pins
Hi all,
Quick question, whats the correct or best lubricant to use on caliper slider pins. I've had a problem with one of my rear calipers sticking a little and not fully releasing when I take my foot off the brake. Last year I greased up the sliders with some copper slip which sorted the problem but recently the caliper has started to stick again. I recently read that copper slip isn't really suitable for the sliders so can anyone advise what I should use ? Cheers, Rick |

when I bought the refurb kit for my calipers, it came with red grease. Quite sticky, but safe for rubber.
To be honest I had never heard of it til I was searching for the refurb kit. The problem with some other greases will be the damage it can do to rubber and plastic over time, and possible interference with ABS systems (kinda makes sense when you think of it lol)

+1 for Ceratec:
https://mintex.com/products/?lang=en-gbr Alternatively Red rubber grease: This may help: http://www.redrubbergrease.com/ Keep well away from "normal" grease where there's rubber - especially around brakes. Andy. Last edited by AndyN01; 4th November 2017 at 11:00.. Reason: web links |

I too would say Red Rubber Grease as I think there are rubbers around the sliders.

I've used silicone grease. Waterproof and safe for rubber.

The thing is, there's rubber and there's rubber. Natural rubber (from trees) is degraded by any grease containing hydrocarbon oils (lithium grease for example). On the other hand, synthetic rubbers (of which there are literally dozens) are very much the unknown in the equation. So it all depends on what brake guide pin bushes are made from. You can be pretty sure it isn't natural rubber. To be absolutely sure, unknown rubbers should be lubed with any specially formulated 'rubber grease' or with a silicone type. Formulated rubber greases may be dyed red, white, blue or any other colour according to the manufacturer's fancy. So, like tyres and engine oils, many people have their favourite rubber grease.
