DCC uses the same rails as DC, but if you change over you *may* need to adapt some parts of your layout.

Things like dropper wires to provide a good feed of power all the way around, adapting points and so on.

Which DCC system are you looking at, out of interest?

Couple of forums which will provide far more information than I ever could (still starting with DCC myself).

Thanks for the reply not really gone into it as yet it just seems daunting and I am going to assume very expensive.
Have just installed a 16x8 shed and will look forward in getting loads and loads of trains down that were just sitting there doing nothing.

If you are looking to convert old DC stock to DCC, then yes, it can become expensive as you need to alter wiring and then fit decoders, and some won't be possible to be converted.

If you are starting a layout from scratch, or (as I did) make the move from DC to DCC with only a few engines, it's no worse than starting from DC from scratch and you get all the benefits that DCC brings.

No right or wrong answer to be honest, but either way that size shed will give you a lot of room to play with
