![]() I guess that most of you will be mad football fans, but no doubt there is the odd rugby follower amongst you. If so, good luck for the England fans amongst you in your match against France this weekend. I'll be watching! Our team, the All Blacks, were unexpectedly bundled out in the quarter finals by France. We're in mourning here. NZ has only won the Rugby world cup once, in 1987, and we're getting to be a bit like England in the World Cup - lots of promise, but never quite make it. This year all the smart money was on the All Blacks, long regarded as the best in the world - but smart money is not always right! I was pleased when driving to work this morning to be driving a car with an English name and a Union Jack on it, not a French car!
However, we'll get over the loss and be ready in 4 years time to do battle.......again! ![]() |

![]() I usually cheer on the all-blacks when I'm not cheering on a home nation, but I must admit, as a neutral, I was rooting for the cheese-eating surrender monkeys on saturday evening.
Sorry. It was a great game and the cheese-eating surrender monkeys played with all their heart against a frankly brilliant all-blacks squad. But there's something in me that always cheers for the under-dog. Saturday was a great day for rugby - the england match was fantastic - even if I had to keep my celebrations silent for fear of waking the baby... |

![]() I'll think of you when I'm watching England and France this weekend. I won't have to worry about cheering loudly. I like the line about surrender monkeys......
Actually our rugby history shows very few losses to France, but always at vital moments like this time and in 1999 in the final. Otherwise we get on pretty well with the French teams. |
