Exclamation New Rear Windscreen Rubber Seal?

Hi there, need help in locating new rear rubber window seal for mgzt saloon as half of the seal looks cracked and lets the rest of the car down!

The seal looks like its a chrome one that has been powder coated black?

Is this item still for sale?
regards

Hi there.

Just a small correction, it is not a seal, it is merely a trim. The rear screen, as with most cars these days, is bonded in place, usually with the trim fitted at the same time. The trim is really only there to protect the bond from the elements and cover the expansion gap between the screen and the bodywork.

Unfortunately that means the trim is usually stuck in to the bond material and impossible to remove without removing the screen. Trust me, you do not want to go down the route of removing the rear screen. Rear screens are toughened glass and whilst quite resilient the risk of breakage is high and sourcing a new rear screen is apparently very difficult at the moment.

Best leave well alone if it is not too bad. Only an opinion of course.

Hi Derek
Thanks for the info. Didnt know the screen was bonded! So it just a trim, no danger of a water leak there then, Do you know if this trim is powder coated? as would to try touching it up maybe with some matt modeling paint?

Hi Nick,

Not really sure on the ZT (I have a 75). Mine has a chrome finish around the rear screen trim. I am not sure how they finished the various trim pieces on the ZT's although I am sure someone else will be able to advise you shortly.

Oh, and I would never say "so no chance of a leak then" as a poor bond can easily happen if the screen was fitted poorly, not primed properly, section missed out etc..

Sorry I cannot assist on that one.

Derek
