Default spare wheel storage

After reading the excellent "Project Drive" post, I think I'm missing a spare wheel storage tray. Under the hardboard (under the carpet) should there be a plastic tray above the spare wheel? Or is it only on tourers?

Also, is a spare wheel really needed since it was deleted on later models anyway? I have one of those repair kits anyway...

tnx

Nick

Nick, the storage tray was only ever for the tourer, so don't worry your not missing it.

If you originally had the spare, all that was sitting on top of it was a polystyrene jack & wheel brace holder. This would lie on top of the up turned spare, and would be flush when the carpet/hardboard cover was down.

As for whether you need one?, that's up to you. I personally do have a full size spare, so if I get caught out, at least it's a quick and final job to swap it over without too much hassle.

I recently retrofitted my tourer with the tool holders at the side and the carpet storage tray -now much more useful!
