I have the bog standard sony cd jobby in the glove compartment, last night it stopped working, all I did was press the button to play another cd ( it had been playing one, and I got NO CD on the display,I took the casette out of the sony unit, all the cd,s were in the "trays" ok, put it back in, got the CHECKING CD display, heard it do the whirry bit, then it came up with NO CD
again

Any ideas?

I have no idea of the cause but the same thing happened to my Sony changer a few months back.

I took it out, reconnected it, checked all the cables from CD changer to the headunit, took it apart, re-assembled it, took it apart again then reassembled it yet it still failed to do anything.

It would (upon testing and observing it) get so far as starting to operate the cd-selector motor but it would stop for no apparent reason. I could see nothing fouling the mechanism but I was prevented from disassembling it any further due to it being quite intricately assembled.

In the end I resolved myself to buying another unit. I personally went for an Alpine changer but another Sony changer of the same model would be a straight forward swap over.

Been away working only just seen this one..
If it is a the Sony Multi Player I think you are on about (T69 but not sure),
it has a Connects 2 Box to make it match Wiring etc. When this goes Faulty this is the Error that shows.
It also appears to be a fairly common fault.

i bought a T69 second hand to use while i wait for a fascia adapter. I had to connect and disconnect a few times before it worked properly, maybe worth a go going over the connectors
