Some of the Originals are still going at 9 years old.
Only 3 Main Problem Faults. Red Light staying on. (Kiss of Death) Laser Packing up. (On CD Sat Navs not worth the Cost of replacing unless from a unit with above fault) Tray mechanism goes faulty. Disc keeps ejecting or won't load. (Trays for MK3's are to expensive when you can get replacement Unit Secondhand). Damp is a killer for these units. Always check frequently for any water leak problems and sort as quick as possible, plenty of Posts on this. Up to date map discs are still published every 6 months. BMW MK3 CD Units have the advantage of being able to have Software/OS updated. MK4 owners now have the advantage of Speed Camera Audio Alerts and full 7 Digit Postcode entry. Sorry, Have updated my post.
The Tray mechanism goes faulty. Over engineered with a sensor etc and it just seems to pack up. Only cure a complete new Tray with/without Laser Assembly normally, or swap from a non working unit with a different fault. |
