Arrow Low Line Sat Nav Intermittent Going Blank

My better half's CDTi Auto has got Intermittent Low line sat nav problem.
It drops out after about 15 mins ie:
The message display may go blank (still illuminated but blank)
Sometimes it gets amnesia ...forgets what destination you entered so you have to start again when deplay re appears. I've also had blank yellow stripes on display where the graphics should be!! (corrupted)

I have proved the message centre is OK as that always works on all the other functions like trip MPG etc, the problem is with the low line system.
Sometimes bumpy road brings it back! Me thinks a loose wire...... but which one? And front head end or CD end in boot?
Keith any ideas?

Now cured. Silly me didn't check the obvious things, the Nav disc was dirty!!!!! Just gave it a wipe and hey presto works a treat. She re-routes instantly now whereas before she took ages to re think if you missed a turn.

Having a bit of a run of bad luck at moment julesbass im sorry to hear.
Not to up to date on Lo Line Sat Nav, and Keith I think is away working this week.
Other than ensuring all connections are sure, and checking for any damp areas in boot. You could shut down system disconnect Battery (if you have security codes where required) then after 20 Mins re do and see if it all resets, not sure where else at this moment to go.
The yellow stripes are generally a display fault Im afraid.
Someone else more use to your system will be along soon.

Default Message display center is OK

Cheers John
I have proved the Massage centre display is functioning OK, because when the SAT NAV decides to fall over a touch of the message stalk button brings the display back to life and correctly displays TRIP, AV SPEED MPG etc. So definately a NAV fault.

Hi Julesbas

I had similar problems with mine when I first got the car, sometimes fine for days, then all of a sudden either blank screen or just the 'back' icon in the bottom right hand corner. Glad to say after I disconnected the battery and left it for a couple of hours, all was well again. If you are going to try this don't forget to let the boot computer shut down properly before disconnecting; i.e. door, boot and bonnet open till light goes out, go back and check light is out three times or more then just check it again.

P.S. I found an updated disk helped a lot with the 'thinking time' for re-routes etc.

Jules the lo line uses the black/pink wire and only that one for the display it is the same wire used for the traffic master unit

It connects from the main nav harness behind the headunit using a little six pin plug check there and the pin (pin10) in the connector behind the cluster,

Default Sat Nav Working Fine Now!!

Thanks Keith and Welly!
I was just going to try both your suggestions when I thought I'll just have a look at the Nav disc in boot and see what version issue it is......2003 it says.
MMM check the other side of CD, god it looks like condensation on it, can't be as its a really warm day. Turns out it's a film of 3 years worth of grime and dust!!

The CD probably had not been removed since car was new. So I hurridly went and gave CD a wash literally under the tap! Dried it put it back in...

This Low line Sat Nav has never worked so good, and very quick on re-routing too. So it was a classic case of check the obvious first.

It all makes sense now the poor laser couldn't read what was on the disc properly and instead of the display saying NO DISC like an audio system would say, it just played havoc with the head unit! Even corrupting the message centre with yellow horizontal stripes!! Bet that's why the previous owner sold the car to us. (his loss now)

So all the intermittent faults i had were down to a dirty disc. And that would explain why the Nav was dropping out over bumps (increased error rate to the laser, same happens to an audio CD more prone to jumping if laser can't read the disc )

One for the records me thinks.
