Default Speedo Head Change

I want to change my speedo head with a temporary one, whilst I change the illumination LED's inside.

I was just wondering if I purchased a speedo and the LSM from the same car so I did not muck up the mileage on my existing speedo, when the the is replaced with the original, would I loose my original milage and get the "ERR" message, I know the reading is held on the speedo head and the LSM, but is it held any where else?

Can anyone give me any information?

I don't think swapping only a donor IKP and LSM would work because they don't have the same VIN as stored in the ECU. It will work if the donor's ECU is also used (assuming it's from an identical model).

Refitting the original parts after you change the LEDs would be OK.

All this is my understanding from reading up the subject. Please don't spend money based on this single opinion. Others here may have a deeper insight on this.

As the Information is stored elsewhere I cannot see this proposal working I'm afraid,
as it would not match on putting back original Speedo (IPK) unless you are going to start swapping ECU etc.

Having read above post I agree with T Cut.

Thanks for the info T-Cut, I am worried as I need to use the car everyday, so the mileage would be changed, from what it was when I took out the original IPK.

Next step I suppose is to have a work with Les/ Kevin @ SMC, to see if they have a IPK from a ZT with the blue illumination and then a trip EMS to get it setup on the T4.

UNLESS anyone else could throw some more light on the subject?

Thanks John

I think it will be easier and quicked to get a new IPK and get it setup on the T4.

Regards
Tony
