Unhappy a 75 CDTI saloon underpowered

I have a 75 2.0 CDTI that has recently lost a large portion of it's power and fuel economy. It has been to specialist diagnostic garage who changed the air filter and then said there was nothing wrong with it. Has anybody got any sugestions.

Hi Darryl. As suggested, it sounds like it could be the MAF sensor which is located to the left of the air filter box as you look from the front of the car. To test whether this is faulty or out of spec you need to disconnect it (simply pull the plug out) and drive the car. If it is faulty you should notice a difference in the power delivery. It's not advisable to keep this disconnected as it will affect your MPG adversley.

If it is indeed faulty you need to do one of three things.

1) Get a replacement Bosch item at over £100 if I remember correctly and this will more than likely eventually go the same way as your original MAF.
2) Get a cheap immitation from eBay at about fifty quid or thereabouts which may or may not last any length of time or
3) Invest in a Ron Box and Pierburgh MAF (details HERE ) which will sort your problem and give you a massive boost in torque and a big horse-power improvement too!

HTH

*** 'er done, Son!

.. As they say on Monster Garage, I'm finding.. Or was it that one with the custom bikes..? I've no idea.. I'm actually enjoying "King of Cars" at the moment, though my striking resemblance to Chopper is somewhat disconcerting..
