Washer bottle removal

Does the windscreen washer bottle come out easily?

I haven't had a look yet but experience has shown that it is quicker to get an answer here!

The reason I want it out is because the washer fluid has jellified. Why does this happen anyway? It's quite a disgusting mess.

It's caused by bacterial slime usually. If yours smells like a sewer, you have a bug issue. Once you get the bottle out (not difficult I understand), give it a 30 minute bath with hot water and Domestos. That will sterilise it and give you a fresh start. Only use proper screen wash fluid or concentrate. Good quality screen wash has a bactericide to stop this gloop forming. And it needs a good, fast turnover really.

No it damned well doesn't come out easily as I found out !! God, what a pain the job turned out to be.

This is because the two little plastic screws that secure it are actually pushed in, but have to be unscrewed to get them out to release the bottle, and these can be reluctant to unscrew, and if you're trying to do the job without taking off the front bumper, the bottle becomes impossible to remove if one wont come out.

I resorted to flushing with boiling water, and bleach, plus taking off the filter and pump at the bottom. No trouble since, touch wood.

50/50 chance then!

Fast turnover is the key phrase here. Washers have been used probably 3 times in the last 2 years and car hasn't been out at all since the end of November.

The easiest way is to remove the front bumper giving much easier access.

Just sorted mine. Thought I was going to need a new washer pump after the washers stopped working but tested it and all OK. Removed the black soft rubber filter (where the pump sits into, use a wide blunt blade to save damaging it) and cleaned out all the gunge, flushed the bottle, re-assembled and all OK. Fitted heated washer jets at same time, great.:lol:
