Low performance Help
Have a Rover 76 v6 52 plate, had not one ounce of bother until recently. For some reason she is lacking power, feels as if she needs to spit something out and away we will go. When it is cold in the morning you can hear a tappet noise for about a min or so then all quiet, starts no prob, no water showing in oil or oil in water, just lacking her zing. Spoke with Rover dealer they are talking about manifold probs and suggest they investigate to see if it needs changing, seems a bit extreme. Has anyone any ideas

Have you checked the air filter, the tube connecting the outside intake to the airbox had come adrift on mine and was causing some problems.
Mine also makes the tapping noise from cold and I had it investigated by the dealer, I was told it was coming from the manifold but its not unsual unless it gets worse or is still there when hot after a long journey. |

You neglected to say what mileage the car has covered, it may just be the VIS motors which are unserviceable (circa £130 for the pair), or worst case scenario a new inlet manifold (£lots). If you get it to a dealer (with a T4 diagnostic computer) or someone with a code reader then thats a start. If the manifold is indeed kaput, there is a company that refurbs them for around £200 + vat & postage. http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...nifold_failing

low performance
Sorry the car has done 78000, have had it plugged in at dealership stored fault codes P1470 variable intake balance valve, always open and P1472 variable intake butterfly valves, always open. Hubby very mechanical minded and has checked the butterfly and opening and closing ok.

From what you say the inlet manifold butterflys are still functioning, the VIS balance motor is probably the fault.
There are two VIS motors 1 power and 1 balance. Best job is to replace both. |

vis moters are common to kaput! the switches inside are soldered at the back only so the solder tends to break the connection. i have just repaied mine and it is a simple job with common sence.

£130ish for new motors & it's a pretty simple job to DIY replace. Just remember to seat the rubber gasket properly!
