Default New OBDII scanner. Thoughts and advice?

Well this arrived in the post today. For less than £7 I am impressed. It's an ELM327 mini Bluetooth scanner.

Attachment 30044

Setup is very easy, just plug it in and pair it to something with Bluetooth. In my case I used my mobile and Torque (free android app). The ECU was found in seconds and I'm pleased to say it said there were no fault codes found either current, pending or historical. I tested an 02 sensor and it found a reading (fluctuating), rpm, engine temp etc seem fine.

Does anyone have any advice or opinions on the use of these scanners?

Thanks.

Rik.

Don't use them until you have a problem.

If you do otherwise you just get paranoid

I doubt you will find any error codes if it was reset only a few days earlier!

i have 2 or 3 scanners and a snap on scanner and they all are good at what they do. i went years with out a t4 and swore i would never buy one. best thing i ever did i am lost with out it now its used everyday for one thing or another. makes life so my easier and takes alot of guess work out of a job now. my t4 developed a fault and i was without one for best part of 2 weeks and i was lost. phil t4 came to the rescue thank god
i found the scanners good at engine management faults, but its airbag and abs which lets them down. but for the money they are they are good. the obd11 scanner i use most cost me 27.00 and it does the same as the snap on scanner does on the rovers and that was 3,000 pound lol. i have so much respect for the proper t4 guys as they make it all look and sound so easier lol and its not for idiots like me.
