Default car will not start EP warning

Hi...parked up last night..no problem....came out this morning and it would not start...have the EP in lights where the gear change indicator is..i know from the book it says gear box problem but is anyone else able to shed better details on the problem..regards potts

The car will got into EP when it detects a problem in the box.

First thing to try is a battery reset to see if that at least allows it to start (radio codes Sat NAV etc)

If no joy then you will have to take it to either an auto specialist or a garage with a T4 to diagnose the fault.

Default EP

When my 2.0 atuo came up with this code a couple of years ago it meant the battery was dead. Put on a new one and hey presto it started.

EP = emergemcy programme.. Normally used to prevent the engine starting and thus causing damage to the gearbox. But --

Sometimes it's the ECU sending an incorrect fault code. e.g. after it got wet, and has been dried out again!

When it happened on the White 75 I had, there were 22 other fault codes as well!

ok folks do not be mislead by the EP symbol all it was is a broken earth supply to the ecu...quite a commom fault but the dealer will tell you it is the ECU...problem fixed....regards potts
