Very intermittent charging fault
On my 2.5 Rover 75 I have a very intermittent charging fault.
Very occasionally (two or three times in the last six months) on starting the car(whether the engine is hot or cold) the charge light fails to go out and then the IPK shows the 'charge fault' warning, however, if I stop driving, switch the engine off and wait a few minutes on re-starting the engine the charging light goes out as expected and then everything is back to normal, until the next time it occurs. The car was fitted with a replacement alternator prior to the commencement of the fault and the intermittent fault started shortly after, I think that there could be an intermittent fault with the alternator, the alternator is under warranty with the garage so there is no issue having it replaced under guarantee. The battery is less than 12 months old I'm going to carry my Topdon BT100 with me in the car, so next time the fault occurs I'll be able to put the unit on and see if there is any actual output charging the alternator. When I've run the Topdon diagnostic tests on the starting / charging system previously, there are no faults with the alternator output etc. Steve
