Engine won't start

Went out to car warm up getting ready to go to MK meet. Started and it sounded like 2 cylinder not a four, stopped and tried to restart wouldn't have none of it. Last few days when started it was lumpy then fired on all cylinders, not this time, its dead. Your thoughts please.

I have bee having trouble with Auto box, when you press accelerator to pull away......it snatches then normal, coming back from Norwich yesterday whilst cruising steady 65/70 when keeping a steady pressure on accelerator revs went from 2200 to 3300 as though it was clutch slipping on an Auto?. I was hoping to hook up to T4 at MK today, but that won't be happening now or soon by sound of it.

Sorry guys will not be there today.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Sorry to hear this Barry, the non starting issue and the Autobox could be two separate problems. Hopefully members will be able to assist..

Your transmission symptoms match low fluid level, although slipping at speed is not something I've encountered in such circumstances. Other than that, I imagine that its going to be the usual faulty solenoid or reverse piston.

Just had breakdown service out, we tried and tried to start but to no avail, mechanic suspects fuel pump failure, disconnect the line and no fuel coming through, full tank of petrol. Will have to get my garage out in the morning to see what they say.

Have to say I don't think he knew what he was looking at, but I'm not a mechanic

Have you checked the fuel filter to see if it has uncrewed as this is a common problem on the later 1.8 petrol models. Search on forum for FOC or 'fabled orange clip'!

The car is an earlier version, the FOC would not be a problem in this case. The fuel pump is usually a strong item and only fails rarely, but in this case as fuel delivery seems to be the problem, it can't be overlooked.

As you've reported no fuel supply to the engine, this does seem the most likely explanation.
