Lightbulb cleaning EGR?

I know this may sound silly but i was speaking to my mate who is a master technician at a reputable garage that may rhyme with bik fit, anyway he claimed that a very effective way of cleaning the EGR is by soaking it in soapy water. I have my doubts as obviously rust is my main concern and my sergey(the 75) blowing bubbles is another. I think i will stick to so intake cleaner this time but what are peoples opinions?

Yes that works reasonably well.

Not sure on the 75, but so long as there is no aluminium then oven cleaner works wonders.

biological washing powder works too, mix it up like a paste and leave it on for few hours, then rinse the lot off.

I have used oven cleaner, washing up powder, drain unblocking foam leave for about 3 hours then if you have a jet washer wash it all out hold it in yours hands after giving the manifold a vigorous swing somesome old rag to push through the holes to help dry it out job done or if you have use of another car take it down to the car jet wash spend £2 and use the hot foam jet wash and clean it that way make sure the MAP sensor as been removedalong with the rubber o-rings round & oval ones do not clean the EGR like this Arctic.

It is rumoured - although I would strongly deny it if the missus were to ask - that putting it through the dishwasher works wonders

...just don't get caught!!!

Right i used intake and carb cleaner first, that was useless against the mountain of grime. So i used the biological paste method and wow, i left it for 2 hours and then rinsed with hot water and all the muck just washed away so i will deffo use that method again. Also cleaned maf sensor, cleaned both control switches for windows and mirrors and tried to realign the boot. With doing a DIY EGR bypass what exactly do i need to do? I know about blocking the vacum hose what else do i need to do?
