Good morning Derek, It's a proper grey wet miserable day here. I need an haircut but I don't know if I can be bothered going out in this rain.

Ok Derek, apart from the weather.! At least we haven't had the snow, like some areas of our neighbouring county have.

Morning all - damp, cold and miserable here as well.

Off to exchange my non-soft closing toilet seat for a new one - that does

He was cremated too and the collection of his remains was quite a shock for me, my heart sank and I could have cried when the undertaker handed him over in what I can only describe as a plastic sweet jar. Although opaque there would have been no doubt as to what it was and what it contained to those in the know who saw it as I carried him home. In fact my initial shock quickly turned to disgust and anger and the first thing I did when I got home was to ring another undertaker for advice. He apologised that I had been left in that position and explained that some undertakers but not all and certainly not him sadly returned remains in the standard/industrial containers as used and given to them by the crematorium. Something which he said he would never do unless specifically requested by a customer and something which in his view any undertaker should raise and discuss with a customer beforehand. He so impressed me with his sympathetic and helpful manner that I engaged him to transfer my father's remains into one of his caskets asap and I also bought my own funeral plan via him.

Looks like you gave your loved one a good send off Phil and I hope that all goes well for the future. A memorial service I think is a good idea, the church which hosted my father's service holds a collective one for all who have passed in that year. I found attending it much easier on the emotions, not only are you among a kindred congregation but you are free of the stress and a lot of the grief which hits you on the day of the original.
Thank you Willy for those thoughts and for your experiences, good and bad. How prudent of you to have taken that leap and to have already paid for your funeral with a firm who are considerate and respectful. At a recent funeral, the undertaker turned out to be a bit of a cowboy, sub-contracting to different funeral services not under his control such as the hearse and the place of rest. The mortician could not close my friends eyes and used super glue to pin them back. This made him look like he was Chinese. It was horrifying. I am sure this bad practice is fairly rare, but who knows.

Cremation in Kenya is gaining popularity as ground burials are expensive. The Christians here traditionally go for burials in the belief that cremations have been associated with paganism. Because of the high cost of burials, grave robbing to reuse and resell the coffins is not that uncommon. Part of the problem has been made worse by government policy, restricting the availability of creating more space for burials and reduced supply of coffins because of the shortage of trees. Could such a thing happen in the UK. I sincerely hope not as people should always have that choice
