Default kv6 belt tensioner

just replaced my cambelt tensioner on the V6 along with all the other ancillaries. i bought a gates tensioner this time , instead of the I.N.A standard. it fitted ok and came with the pin preloaded and ready to fit. i just wondered if the gates version also has an oil damper as well as a spring . ? it is just one long shaft in appearance against the I.N.A version , which has a radial type bowl at the base, and the gates does not. has anyone else used one ? ..

No, sorry Stefan, I've no idea as I kept my original tensioner (nothing wrong with it), renewing just the pulley due to rough bearings.

thankyou simon for your reply . my guess is that because its a gates tensioner made by gates for the KV6 it would be a damper type arrangement , similar in design to a simple strut shock absorber . But im only guessing ... my thinking says that because its a gates , then who better to trust . as long as it does the business .. im happy. ...

well the GATES tensioner fitted fine. the only downside to it was that i could not refit the rubber tensioner bung back in , as it was a different profile to the INA version. just worry a little if the bung is there to prevent stone chips etc from entering the belt area. i do use my undertray always. granted ,a pain to fit without a ramp but i am concerned now without the bung fitted. ... unduly or not ?
