183K Tourer initial checks
Hi all,
As some of you may know my Copperleaf saloon and MG ZT-T have found new homes. So, because being Roverless isn't allowed (can't count the Damson one as she's a long way off getting on the road), I "took on" a good friends, neighbour's 75 diesel tourer in Conny spec on a 52 plate. Mot'd until Feb 2019 and very few £££'s. She'd been in the same family from new. A company car, racked up lots of miles (130K) with full service history from new. Unfortunately the owner passed away and she went into the family who were not as kind to her. Service indicator was 8k overdue and the oil looked like black treacle. First time in decades I've used proper flushing oil rather than the additive for an oil change! Some good points: Slave has "Luk" on the bleed pipe so I'm guessing that's been changed. Gave the whole system a thorough bleed and the clutch is light and positive with nothing to suggest any leaks . Good Bosch battery, tyres with decent tread, nothing to suggest flooding of anywhere and underneath isn't too bad at all. Replacement brake lines have been fitted. I've checked over all the calipers and they're all fine and free - except the one that sheared off the bleed nipple - thank heavens for Mickyboy - cheers mate. Discs are 10mm rear and 21.5mm front and pads are all over 10mm thick. All now completely bled and OK. Handbrake needs sorting which shall be a nano job. Stupidly I forgot to note/photo where the wheel adjusters are on each side. If someone can help out with which side is at about 2 o'clock and which at about 10 o'clock I'll be grateful and shall save me hunting around aimlessly. And so to the initial "75" checks: The plenum was full of leaves but dry. Maybe because there's just a hole where I thought there should be a grommet & tube . Jule's mod & some fish tank filter mesh coming up . The pollen filter has seen better days: And the PCV filfer.... well, see for yourself The bonnet release had already been turned over but one of the lugs on the black housing has broken off so I recon a new one would be sensible. Engine fan isn't working so that's due for investigation. Maybe duff brushes or needs a Gold resistor - hopefully nothing more serious. We'll see She's a bit battered and bruised and needs more tidying and sorting but I'm back on the road with a Rover . Cheers, Andy. Last edited by AndyN01; 16th September 2018 at 10:30.. |

HI Andy.
I only realised at the last meet that you had passed on your Tourer, wished I had known. Is the tourer above the one that the manifold, EGR, Map sensor is for at the next nano meet, if so and you want them changed before than drop me a PM. I also have a spare bonnet pull black housing you can have that PCV definitely needed changing, how are the intercooler O-rings ? don't forget to tie back the hose from rubbing the A/C pipe, check the vacuum hoses for chaffing too.

both my adjusters were the same way around with the capstan on the left & the exposed thread on the right. But sometimes your find that they’re not set up that way, I find the easiest way is to remove the disk actually have a look, otherwise you can spend hours wasting your time mate
