Default Already got one!

.... I am just enquiring weather it would be wise to keep the 2/4 solenoid on the shelf as a ready to go spare, if and when it fails as I have read this is the most likely the part to go wrong.
Hi again Steve

I bought one of these a month or so ago from the US, purely as a "just in case" purchase.

Quick delivery and (at the time) less than half the price than here .... although I think it might have been Mat that had an offer on these recently, someone did.

I also bought the cover gasket from JP Auto Transmission (see Simon's link) as they had them, rather than use liquid gasket method mentioned in a How To on here somewhere.

I think my car will have more Xmas Pressies to open than me!

She's already had nice new Auto Fluid for her 17th birthday this year!

Happy Xmas, all

John

Hi John.
Yes hello thank you for posting up, did you use the link I posted for the part, if not do you have your link from where you purchased please.

Also do you have a part number for the gasket you refer to above most appreciated, as you say always better to be prepared.

I used this gasket when I replaced the brake duty solenoid in mine earlier this year. Fitted gasket with just a smear of sealant,no leaks so far

Hi Steve

I bought the Solenoid from USA Industries via eBay.

The Item Number was 321231703588 and the listing was for
JF506E Jatco Transmission 2-4 Brake Duty Pressure Solenoid N283 (99314)

The gasket from JP Auto Transmission was part number N228 25 03 for a
GASKET, PAN, JF506E (DURAPRENE) £10.33 incl p&p and Tim Collins was the helpful fella.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards

John

Thanks for the link Arctic we still have 120 left on our deal yet.
Hopefully this gives us some quantity leverage with suppliers to bring down the price of fixing another common problem.

Hi Steve,

The eBay gasket certainly looks the same shape. The only difference (I think) I can see is that it looks like a cork gasket whereas the one I have from JP Autos is a denser card like material.

Whether one is better than I other I couldn't say .... anyone any thoughts?

Happy New Year, all

John

Just purchased the couple of 2/4 brake duty and 2/4 brake timing solenoid as suggested to me by Trikey at the NEC this year. Have opted for genuine LR items (i know Mat Price sells good ones and I have been a satisfied customer of him in the past but he only had in stock the 2/4 brake solenoids)
LR parts are THT500040 for the 2/4 brake duty and THT500050 for the 2/4 brake timing one.
Gasket has been purchased from Maktrans of Poland (https://maktrans.net/index.php ). It's a cork gasket. My car runs fine however, sometimes not always, I can "notice" the shift from 2 to 3 and when shifting down. That's why I want to replace the two solenoids
