Default P0 300 code

Last couple of days have had hesitation at high revs under load - my diagnostic kit is giving a PO 300 code- it is very intermittent just done nearly 400 miles on motorway and B road in last 3 days and it has happened very slightly twice and quite bad hesitation once - rev counter is NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- on when idling and no wavering -as it is multiple cylinders i assume it is more likely to be

1.Failing coil pack
2. Faulty spark plug/plug wiring
3. Fuel mix issue - EGR valve faulty ( mine is original so 16 years old)
4. Fuel pump - however as it is intermittent dont think this is the case.
5. As it is multiple i am assuming no cylinde\gasket issue.r

Any other ideas /experiences welcome

do you know what the Spark Plug Gap is set at ?

Factory setting is 1.0mm - best setting for a 1.8t is around 0.6 or 0.7 mm.

The leads can break down over time. Start with plugs, then leads, then coil packs if you don't have a specific fault (ie cheapest items first - process of elimination).
