Mouse repellent?
After today's underbonnet oil leak and small fire (alternator bolt missing -> cracked head ), I was looking for a silver lining.... And I found it.
I saw that the top bleed hose was nearly chewed through, the water pipe on the front of the turbo likewise, the rubber cap on the alternator terminal now just looks like an elastic band, and there's a bit of loom damage too. So, at least I only caught fire 300m from home, and didn't die of 'dehydration' on the motorway. My question is - is there anything to spray around the engine bay to stop the little b*ggers nibbling? I've just checked the Polo, and they've been at the wiring there, too. |

You shouldn't have had it de-catted! It's the purr that gets them! If you ask a dog to get rid of mice, they say "Me how?" Santa Claws would have helped last month if you'd sent him a letter. If the car won't start you'll have to get someone to give you a puss start!

I fit these under the bonnet of all my motors and around my sheds, effective works well, and gives the little blighters something to chew on. Safe with pets too. Lasts a couple of winters at least.

My mate recently bought a Jaguar F Pace ex demo, and after a couple of weeks it broke down. The Jag mechanic they sent round told him there were signs of rodent damage but nothing serious.
They repaired it but then it packed up again and so they had it back in. It has behaved itself after they returned it, but Gawd knows what else the little blighters have chewed through. Needless to say as soon as he told me I was on eBay ordering a brace of plastic rats which I'll sneak in when we go for a drive. |

The problem is catching them and getting them to stand still while you apply the stuff. TC |

A friend imported an MG from Germany and found a mysterious electronic device installed. He had the label translated and found it was a "Marder Repeller", a Marder being a type of weasel which apparently has a taste for wiring insulation. I am sure that there are electric gadgets available that will repel normal rodents as well.
Edit: checked Amazon (Canada) and found this inexpensive gadget https://www.amazon.ca/Rodent-Repelle...044482&sr=8-27

Maybe an ultrasonic repeller like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-PCS-Ult...Adyvr7l0G6-rcw From personal experience with the larger dog/cat scarers, they don't work. I guess scaring away a mouse might be easier. TC |
