Vinyl wrap

Been looking into wrapping my car so I can protect the cars paint work.. but looking at the panels on the saloon Has anyone tried to wrap the side rear.. it would be a massive vinyl cut as it goes under and above the doors so might as well wrap the doors with the same cut

Its put me off slightly

From what I have been told, wrapping does not protect the paintwork, since it does not remove as easily as it might, and so can damage it!

i doubt the people at Yiannimize wrap lambo's etc if this was the case... i guess it depends what brand of vinyl is used. i know yiannimize use Avery SW900 Supreme Wrapping Vinyl Film.. but i guess this might be the case with other brands like 3M

Hi

I put a matt black vinyl wrap on the roof of my MG ZTT with my wife and a pal, its not a easy job and you need a heat gun, felt tipped squeegee and shape knife.

It turn out very well, but for big panels you need at least 3 people and lots and lots of patience!

My advice Kev is to take it in and get the professionals to do it.

It’s an awful job to do correctly.

i think your right again andy some of the panels are just too big along with the chrome stripes.. might get a few quotes for paint job

I know a guy who wraps for a living. He won't touch a car over 3 years old. The paintwork must be perfect, everything shows.

I can just imagine removing it an it bringing off great big lumps of lacquer.

I tried doing on a motorbike once, it was rubbish in my opinion. It scratches so easily.

Used to do it for a living myself.

Older cars are a no go imo.

Additionally so many people use cheap material and the wrap looks good for a few weeks.

My wraps looked good for 3 years. That's the difference.

And every paint imperfection shows, and if you have stone chips, when it comes to removal be prepared to loose a chunk of paint.

That being said however I will be wrapping on of my 75s shortly in the summer. But that will be my own time and not a rush. Say a solid 25 hours of prep and fit to do it right.

And I prefer cold stretching as much as possible over warm stretching. But again you need really good materials to do it, likes of 3m or avery dennison.

I wouldn't work with anything else. Cost you too much time in labour and material lost.

I considered using some wrapping on my 75 Tourer but on the inside. Mine is a Contemporary SE but I have one of the rare black oak/ash and leather steering wheels to match the dashboard. Like all these wheels, it is turning green, even though my wife made a cover which I use when it is parked. Of course I can't, and don't want to, use a cover while I am driving it and it is still fading.

It occurred to me that wrapping it in a suitable black wood effect material might be the answer so I approached a company that wraps cars but they didn't think it would be suitable for a steering wheel and they also couldn't find the right colours.
