Is it possible the sensor has been damaged by the wires being in the wrong way round, started and drove like this 4 times.

Don't think it's even possible to connect it the wrong way round, the connector is keyed I think?

Hi all i managed to get the car home with another cam sensor fired up straight away. Loaded Toaf on my laptop and this was the result. Would this be my starting problem.

My take on things:

Guessing that these are fresh faults (cleared and returned).
Your cooling fan isn’t working on all speeds.
There’s still a problem with the cam sensor or wiring.
Both of your VIS motors are reporting faults.

The VIS motors won’t stop your car from starting, neither will the cooling fan - sorry but it’s still the cam sensor.

Regards

If you have a 2 speed fan with resistor (the silver or gold rectangular component visible through the radiator grille) then you can ignore this code. It refers to the medium speed of a 3 speed fan system which, by definition, is not fitted to your car. I would expect both your fan speeds to be working.

As Vitesse says, TOAF is reporting the same long standing fault with the camshaft sensor, wiring or connections.

Quite right Simon, the fan error relates to the 3sp fan, not the later 2sp.

However, for piece of mind I would suggest the OP runs his Toaf again and physically checks VIS motor function, and while there the fan too, remembering to move the fan slider to the mid-way position, and that when checking the VIS motors he needs to open the bonnet and listen for four sweeps of each motor - nothing is visible on the computer. Stocktake can help with refurbished VIS motors.

I have just had the ECM apart, all looks good tested continuity all fine.
Tomorrow will cut loom cover to test the wires but I’m sure they are ok.
I will not be spending any more money, car will have to be sold.

Well after putting ECM back in and testing the new sensor, the car started with errors.

So I tested the other sensor that did not start the car and it seemed fine, cleared the codes and restarted the car, to my surprise it started, ran diag no codes, put other sensor in and no codes. The only thing I did was take the ECM apart and test continuity on the terminals.
The car has not been used and the battery disconnected for a week.

I will take the car home tonight if it starts, then see what happens tomorrow, this is why I will not take an old car to a garage the cost would have been more than it’s worth.

Thanks all for your help will keep you updated.

It does sound as if there was/is an intermittent poor electrical connection which, when disturbed/corrected, allows the engine to start.

Please continue to let us know how you get on.

Car still working, harder to start when cold but when warm all seems fine, I bet it’s down to age and the cold wet weather, I have the same problem getting out of bed when weather is bad.
