Don't know how old you are Peter, but back in the seventies I can remember the panic then was about fossil fuels running out.

Lovel, you had better retract that slanderous statement - Nissans are NOT made in Geordieland. Beware - or suffer the wrath of Brian!

It was cabin heating I was asking about. I fail to see your logic of 'negligible as it's heated using 12 volts' - it's the power used not the voltage it's used at that is important. I can't imagine cabin heating using less than a 1kw heater running at maybe an average of 25% (250W/ 0.25 Kw/h) - I'd hardly think that negligible when every mile of range counts.

Well, spec aside there are plenty of small cars at or under 11k available. None of them are EV though.

e.g. Skoda Citigo, Dacia Sandero, Hyundai i10, kia picanto, toyota Aygo, Dacia Logan, MG3 etc... All perfectly capable of being driven the length of the UK in one day with refuelling stops. Not something we can say yet of any EV at twice the purchase price.

The range of an EV is down to the high voltage battery which is around 360 volts, the internal heater runs from the low volt 12 volt system so has no effect on range. Admittedly if you bring AC into the equation then that’s high voltage.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree, you can’t discount spec, the higher the spec the more expensive the car. I know an i10 won’t cover the length of the UK without a refuel and even if it did surely you would need a rest stop?
