I received almost word for word an e mail from a friend about 3 months ago, they get the email address and try it on. If you reply you have to send to a western union, yes it's a scam.

Sean Carter help. Just logged in now to find out it was a hoax. I was wracking my brain as to who this person was and then the penny dropped. Ed.
I notice you say Sean Carter. I think mine might have said that, but deleted it now, so can't check. However, I had an E-mail saying that a Sean Carter wanted to be my friend on 'Facebook', or something similar, a few months ago; I deleted that one too, but I assumed it had come from our local PCSO of that name, who had moved to another area.

Just gone through my emails and found this so logged on forum to find a lot of the same comments.
Just can’t be too carful*

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, I and my family presently on a short trip to Rome, Italy. Unfortunately, I was robbed in the hotel I booked, all my valuables which includes cash, mobile phones were stolen during the attack but luckily I still have my passport with me.

I've been to the Embassy and the Police here but they are not taking the matter seriously. Please, I really need your financial assistance now because things are really getting tough on me here. Our flight leaves in few hours from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills. Please, let me know if you can help us out?

I'll really appreciate your prompt response.

Regards,

It looks like he does have a virus and if you open the email you all may have the same Trojan working away and sending similar emails to all of your contacts....

my advice is not to open, run a virus scan / sweep and refrain from using sites with passwords until you are clean from cyber nasties....
