To add to Pab's thoughts. A new set of spark plugs wouldn't go amis as it's not unheard of for people to not bother changing the rear plugs due to poor access.

When refilling the coolant on the KV6 the expansion tank should be raised as high as possible. If you search for my post with MG Rover's refilling procedure, and follow it, you'll have no problems. Thanks for replies, i'll be taking it a friends garage this week to get it done plus checks for its mot. I'll report on progress, breaking is last resort.
