There was a large grassland fire just across the river last night, about 4 acres of grass and gorse bushes caught fire. Its a local nature reserve, and all that was on fire has been destroyed, give or take a few bits round the edges that escaped it. the western side managed to escape , but most of the rest side was destroyed. There was a westerly wind last night, so the flames were fanned by it.The fire-fighters had to pump water from the Tyne, via the fire boat to get access to the western fringes, while 4 appliances tackled it from the top and centre.i took some pics, as there is a public footpath and cycle/bridleway,runs along the riverside.By the time i got down with my camera, the flames were out, and just damping down, extinguishing hot spots was taking place.

Default Photos of the fire I mentioned above

These cows seemed unperturbed by the smoke, and were happily munching on charred gorse bushes, and scratching themselves against a burnt tree.DSCF3845 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3844 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3843 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3841 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3840 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3839 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3838 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3837 by Richard , on FlickrDSCF3836 by Richard , on Flickr

I'd like to say great photos Rich but considering the circumstances

They do say that burnt ground makes for a very good recovery for all the flora and fauna though

I think alot of it will be in the next field along, there are about 3 sections along there, and only one area has been affected,it happens regularly, there are old mine workings around the area, and underground fires sometimes break out on to the surface,if the ground gets very dry, like it is.

Good morning all, how is everyone coping with the hot weather? It can’t be very enjoyable. An early start for us, as we are driving up north and spending a week staying with friends at their ranch out in the bush. A lovely couple in their 90’s. Have a great day
