I hate the barstools and everything they stand for.

Well I was glad when one certain person stopped doing their adverts, But the new ones are even worse,Jumping out of a car singing and dancing because you have sold your car to them for a rip off price.....

A good friend of mine had a 4 year old Nissan Quashqai, it started blowing a lot of smoke out of the oil filler cap even though it drove fine, apparently the garage reckoned it probably had a blown piston or snapped pistone ring as its quite a common problem on them, cost of a new engine was going to be £5k installed. The cars value in perfect condition was £13K aprox, we buy any car offered £11.5k, he accepeted the offer and apart from a £200 reduction for a couple of curbed wheels he had the cash in a few hours.
I agree I would never sell them a good car but a means of disposing of a car with an expensive fault they are great.

Someone on another forum offered them an MG Midget. They turned it down.

Clearly, they don’t buy any car.

At the end of the day it's a business. Some transactions they will lose on, like the Qashqai, others they will gain on. Moral of the story is if you don't like the price, you're under no obligation to sell it them! There are a lot of businesses which have questionable morals, hey I have to buy diesel every week but I can't really avoid that without resorting to crime ......

As they say in car parks, when you get annoyed because they open their doors on your pride and joy, "Well, it's only an old car, so why are you bothered?"

I tried getting a valuation from WBAC out of idle curiosity and while the offer was laughably low, they did send a further 4 or 5 emails steadily incleasing the offer. Still not what I could sell if for, even cheaply. But then I don't think the used car trade is going to want a 17 year old Rover 75 anyway. A forecourt could buy a car for £500 and sell it for £1,000 but then a car bought for £5,000 and sold for £10,000 takes up exactly the same amount of space on the premises.
