Same here Trikey fitted Xenons to my old ZT T nearly 10 years ago and the thumb wheel has always worked OK.

Hi Dave.
So D3ave lincs, is correctly stated you need an LSM which matches the now non xenons on the 04 for it to pass, you could get another one, or use the one off the 02 to get it passed, then reinstate back to your 02 after.

You only need the front if i am right in my thinking no T4 involved, i could be wrong.

Unplug the ribbon and swap the fronts over.

Do not swap complete LSM as the mileage is stored in there for the IPK and you will have issues like err displayed on trip mileage

Thanks Steve for your photos, they're very helpful. When I retrofitted some front fog lights to a car, swapping the front of the LSM over (as shown in the photos) is exactly what I did. No T4 involved and is working perfectly. I assume the same would apply in this situation too.

Sorry Dave, this thread has got a bit confusing. Here's what I think you need to do.

Confirm what type of light switches each car has. If the 04 car has no level switch (thumb wheel), you'll need to swap the LSM fronts over. If both cars have a level switch (thumb wheel), that's fine, no work required there.

Remove the self-levelling sensors and brackets from the 04 car.

Don't worry about retrofitting the self-levelling sensors and brackets to the 02 car, it isn't an MoT requirement for them to be fitted, it's only requirement that they work IF they are fitted.

Thanks Ron and Martin for putting me right, much appreciated.

Here's some more questions for you. Is a Xenon headlamp the same as standard Halogen but with a Xenon bulb fitted? How do projector and gas discharge lamps differ (both listed by Rimmer)?

Simon

If you look in the "how to " section, there's a post by Jakg on the differences 😎

Thanks very much Ron.

Hmm, if I've understood correctly there are two types of Xenon headlamps, just to make things complicated.
(1) Conventional reflector housings fitted with a filament bulb filled with Xenon gas. I now remember trying these in my SD1 and as Jakg correctly says, they were rubbish, having a lifespan in months.
(2) HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamp units that don't have a filament bulb but are also filled with Xenon gas. These require what I take to be a power supply mounted on the back of the housing and marked 50 volts. Jakg refers to this as a "ballast".

Ron; do your Xenon headlamp units have the "power supply"?

Yes Simon, mine are oem xenon units with the ballast attached using D2S burners. You can get aftermarket hid burners with ballasts using "H" fitments ie H7 etc but I believe these are now an mot failure. Hth's ?
