Window regulator

Hi folks, I'm fairly sure I have a broken window regulator. I heard the cable snap. I've decided to have a go at replacing it myself and am starting to take the door panel off. I need to disconnect the electrics from the window switch but am not sure how to remove the wires within the switch in the attached photo. Do I pull on the white part containing the wires? I've so far not been able to shift it as its so stiff. Or should I remove it with the part its attached to? Sory to appear to be so dim but I'm not a motor mechanic, I'm a musician but with plenty of spare time.

It looks to me like it should just wiggle out if you rock it back and forth enough. They do seem to require quite some effort to separate.

Hi Peter.
There is a little lug you can press in, but most of the time it's hard to access even with the smallest fingers, so just a good tug will do the job if you do a search you should also find a thread on how to remove the door card, and also the window regulator.

Maybe you got lucky and it's just the white plastic block has snapped. I had the same, sound like a metal cable snapping, but it ended up just being the cable flying out of the white plastic block.

I can't believe how helpful you all are on here! Thanks to all for the helpful comments and also the photos of how to go about replacing the regulator. As it's a "hobby" car I won't have time to look at it for a week or so but I'll be referring to all your suggestions and report back in due course. I only wish I'd approached the forum before I took my MG to the garage who charged me £40.00 for telling me that the "check engine" flashing up meant I had a problem but they didn't know what it was. "We've removed the flashing - drive it and see if it comes back" - which it did - I didn't go back there.

Update: S/H Regulator bought on Ebay for £29.50 (better than a new one for £265.00) and is all fitted and working. i still have the door card to put on but need help from a strong person. Fortunately I don't need the car at present. I am very pleased with myself as I've NEVER done any work on cars. I've also managed to get my electric windows working after six years following an article on here - so thanks!

For your flashing engine light, you need someone with a T4 to plug into the car to tell you the numbers that can be deciphered for correction.

Hi Peter.
For the flashing check engine light, try unplugging the connector to the fuel filter, spray it with contact cleaner, push it on and off a few times, this may solve it.
