Default Phew...MOT out of the way....but, Xenons ouch.

Thanks to two spare tyres the car has passed through it's MOT...

Only problem was one of the Xenon's had gone, now I loved the idea when I bought this latest Rover that it had the projector conversion done.....
But, flipping heck for a non-mechanic it works out a fortune to replace one..
The garage had to drop the front bumper because, of the extra power pack behind the bulb....
A hour labour and cost of bulb...£120.00

Crikey £90 per hour labour is steep anywhere! especially as it should only have taken a half hour...

I didn't know that they couldn't be changed in situ with Xenons.

P.S - That's for a 'professional' workshop. All morning for me outside the house - coffee and biscuits included. .

You should have taken it to Halfords, they fit bulbs for £10 apparently.

You need to remove the front bumper, remove the headlight, remove the back of the headlight, then change the bulb and re-assemble. It's not hard - but it's not 30 minutes work (unless you've done it as many times as I have!)

Can't find the book time but headlight replacement is 0.8 hours, of which 0.6 hours is removing the bumper.

EDIT - more info here - http://forums.mg-rover.org/how-do-i-...n-bulb-284492/

Think I'll stick with my halogens then. At least I can change them by the side of the road without tools. (accepted that HID bulbs last a lot longer, normally).

If they'll do it, they refuse some cars (depending on branch) still not a guarantee that they'll do it correctly either. The standard of Halfords service across the country is variable I know, but mostly bad with one or two shining exceptions that have been pointed out over the years.

Still they are handy when you're in a hurry and everywhere else is shut at 7:30 pm.

I did ask the question in my local halfords, and pointed out they were xenons and the bumper had to come off, they still said they would do it. And the guy I spoke to also said they would fit a bulb from elsewhere but they wouldn't guarantee it (which is understandable as the bulb isn't bought from them). Might be worth asking at your local branch!
