ZTT tailgate plinth removal
I thought it would be easy to remove tailgate plinth for repair to lacquer peel but not so. The four retaining screws are not screws. Has anybody removed plinth and how did you do it please?

they are security type torx screws.if i remember correctly. they need torx bits with a hollow tip.some have managed to undo them by getting a screwdriver and wedging it in a slot and turning.failing that screwfix or halfords will have the correct type bit i should have thought.

You need a TORX 20 size head/bit - the screws can be rusted so worth treating before hand with ku rust and then oil - mine came out a treat. What foxed me was disconnecting the plinth from the loom/plug in the car body - could not get hold of the plug

I might have same problem with loom plug as stroke has affected one hand, although I did change 4 wheels yesterday on another ZTT. I took 3 hours but I did it without help. Adrian. Last edited by deltic08; 30th July 2018 at 04:37.. |

Tried again today - looks like an endoscope and a coat hanger wire job - it has somehow got snagged by the internal screw fitting and am loath to break the fitting .

In the end to get to the plug connection to the plinth had to remove the tailgate inner door trim - starting with the screws in the warning triangle compartment then unclipping the plastic trim and from there gaining access to the plug/loom.

As above in Yorkshire GOC post. TORX 20 size head/bit. Torx are used in threaded holes, so are not self tappers.
