Default battery charging with a difference

unusual battery charging question
hi folks, as above, now i believe my house alarm battery is dying, now although it is 12v will my charger charge it or blow it to pieces' as it's so small, or do I need a household charger of sorts.it says it's valve driven would that be no no I bought a new one last time and will do so if ness. but it does say rechargeable

Your battery is valve driven? As I understand home alarms the battery is charged as necessary by the system and is used when the mains power is cut. If the display is saying the battery is 'dying' then replace it. As to charging it - a normal (modern-ish) 12v battery charger will work provided it's voltage controlled and current limited. Older fast chargers definitely not recommended.

We have a 'monitored' alarm system to the police.We have to have a check on it every 12 months, and after around 10 years, the chap who comes to test it, said he would have to fit a new battery as it was not worth off site charging. I kept it and tried to charge it but it soon lost its charge after testing it. So, don't bother charging it, get a new one.
