Unhappy MG ZT 190+ - Fuel Module Failure

My Zt has now been off the road since 1st October and it's driving me insane. It is garaged with a Rover/MG Service specialist and he cannot get the part required. It needs a new "fuel module", part number WGS100032. It is quite a large module that sits underneath the rear seats and controls the fuel to the engine. There are apparently no parts in this country and his attempts to ship over a part from Italy have so far failed. Can anyone help?

Hi Andy and welcome to the forums

Which specialist is your car with (Stratstones)? I ask because I wonder whether the issue with your car is the fuel pump coming apart? If so then there is a £5 MGR clip that fixes this issue and does not require the whole assembly replacing.

It is a common failure and many garages were replacing complete units rather than just fitting the clip.

If you are absolutely sure you need the new assembly then ring the parts suppliers XPart (www.xpart.com) .I will also email a contact I have there and ask them for you.

I'll post soem pics a member took of the pump unit and this issue with it.

Thanks Mike.
My car is with Adrian Fell (AJF Motors). I have heard of this problem with the fuel module through an aquaintance at my Golf Club but Adrian says he is sure it is the module. I will contact him again tomorrow to make sure he has tried this (I believe that the mod clip is orange to identify it?)

Yes clip is orange but not having one simply means it has not been fitted get the module out of the tank and make sure is is screwed together properly take a printout of the pdf from the club web site

Firstly check the How to to gain access and re-assemble fuel filter assembly.

Ignore info on self tappers. Use clip below.

Well I appear to be getting somewhere. Having spoken to Anthony Betts in Hemel Hempstead, they said they could get a fuel module same day - and they did! I have had the car transported to them but they have discovered that the MG EPC (parts catalogue) is in fact incorrect.

My car is a "2D" chassis number but is has the parts for a "1D" chassis number. As there is a fuel unit on each side of the vehicle underneath the rear passenger seat they are both of the "1D" type and are not interchangeable with the "2D" type. Betts have informed me that as the actual tanks are the same on all vehicles, as long as we have the two parts from the same "family" we should be ok - I can only hope they didn't change any wiring!

They have the "2D" module but are waiting for a "2D" fuel pump on Monday.

Well it's finally good news. Got my baby back this evening. The guys at Anthony Betts in Hemel Hempstead refitted the "faulty" fuel module that AJF Motors had removed. They then ran testbook which showed that the fuel module was ok and it was in fact the crank snsor that had failed. They replaced the crank sensor (£27.50) and it now drives like a dream!!!

Thanks to Anthony Betts (I owe Kevin a game of golf) and a big thumbs down to AJF Motors for not diagnosing the problem properly in the first place.

Thanks to those of you who replied to my post with advice and help. I will continue to monitor the forum to build some more knowledge!

The saga continues...

Broke down again on Thursday - exactly the same symptoms and coincidentaly whilst going around a roundabout!

Recovery took it back to Betts in Hemel who found a blown fuse. They replaced the fuse and it started up ok - as soon as they took it out and it went over a bump the fuse blew again. They are now trying to find some part of the fuel injection wiring circuit that is earthing when the car hits a bump!

Anyone else experienced this sort of problem??
