Default German Engineering at its finest

VAG in a word.

Another superb ploy to fool the emissions probe...

The Germans are 100% at it, Mercedes are doing this as well.

Not on the Mercedes Megane "A Class" yet, but I am sure it will be featured at some stage !

Come on! It’s not to get round the emissions test, it’s pandering to people who want their car to look from the rear as though it’s got 400 bhp. I am thinking of something similar on my diesel cart to stop people overtaking me. Six pipes sticking out the back should stop even the ‘stupid’ brigade having a go.All flame red so they don’t miss them. .

did I read on this forum (I think) a few years ago, that the turned down pipes were part of the Euro 3 regs, to try to disperse diesel fumes?

Curved pipes!??
Can't be an EU rule. Too stupid.
They only rule on curved cucumbers! Surely?

No, no no! You have to let them overtake you to begin with; then power past them on the next straight as if they weren't there. Then, slow down, and do it all over again so they know it was no fluke!

Leastways, that how I used to do it, when barrelling along country roads in Portugal. Golf GTi's in particular were always game for a laugh then Mind you, I was in the M5 then... Well, I can always dream, though I have to say my 160hp tourer diesel is fast enough for now... As my old father-in-law used to say, he aimed to be the oldest on the road, not the fastest!

There's an interesting note on this site:

https://www.dpfproblems.net/cars-without-a-dpf/

".....BMW’s also have a cosmetic method of identifying whether a Particulate filter (DPF) is present, assuming that a standard non modified exhaust is fitted, BMW cars which have straight exhaust tailpipes have DPF’s fitted, those without DPF’s have a tailpipe which points slightly downward...."

Bizarre but, apparently, true.

Andy.

Always thought of those massive overblown and useless tail pipes were the result of an excess of testosterone. Small mind brag value only and failing to deliver what they promise. Come to think of it...
