Echocardiogram
Hi all
Just wondering if any one has had a DOBUTAMINE STRESS ECHO CARDIOGRAM. I'm booked in for one in may as I still have a partially blocked artery (35%) and a complete blockage at the bottom of another. Im winding myself up a bit over this as apparently there is a good chance of the test inducing another heart attack so was just wondering if anyone had had one of these. Stan

I've been poked and prodded more in the last few years than I have in the rest of my life, scanned more often than the Starship Enterprise as well Haven't had an echo cardiogram but with all procedures there are risks, according to the NHS website there is a small chance it might induce a heart attack but if it does you couldn't be in a better place. They wouldn't want an echo cardiogram unless they thought it was necessary.
Personally I have a liver biopsy to look forward to (not) in a couple of weeks. |

Hello from me I have been in hospital since last Monday and had 3 brain scans, a scan of the liver and bladder yesterday, a Dobutamine test you asked about ..... The medication for that test was given IV, to push my heart rate up to 100 beats per minute. It made me feel a bit breathless but after taking a few deep breathes, it quickly went away. It is supposed to be the equivalent of running on a treadmill, without having to actually do the hard work of running. It was painless. My complaint is low heart rate of low beats per minute at rest. Like yourself, I was anxious about having the test. The cardiologist doing the test was a beauty, tall slim with bright blue eyes, Swedish with ultra white teeth - a distraction but she was reassuring and calming. I asked what to if anything goes wrong. She said I am monitored closely throughout and the next room is the cardiac theatre. She said she wouldn’t let anything happen to me and I signed the consent form. Nothing bad happened. I am quite confident the test would not have been carried out if it was going to cause harm. |

Oh my Lord Phil, I do hope you are OK . Sending big man hugs from here - take care of yourself.
Same goes for Stan. Never had one of these tests myself, but in the unlikely event of anything going wrong, you will be in safe hands, in the best possible place. I can understand your worry, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Cliff

Cheers fellas
That's put my mind at rest a bit. Like you say , the best place to be is in the cardio dept if any thing happens. Different hospital this time so might be a better experience than last time. As for the blonde haired , blue eyed Swedish lady , going by the name of the specialist , I think not , but we live in hope. Thanks again guys and wish you all a speedy recovery from your aliments. Stan

You've certainly been through the mill of late Phil - glad to hear you're on the mend. You're made of strong stuff, that's for sure.
Look forward to catching up at a meet some time in the year - take care, Cliff

Thank you Cliff, I am sure we will meet up either at The Ugly Duckling or the other place in the summer. I fly back to the UK 5 July for 4-5 months. Half the battle with these things/illnesses is the mental attitude and trying to think positive even if it’s bad news. I asked the Docs if I could have medical marijuana for the pain. Instead they give me opiates and a low dose of antidepressants which does the trick. The pain is numbed. Opiates have been banned since last year from the high street and are designated as controlled drugs, only available via a hospital specialist. Positive thoughts, thank you.
