Default Is This Normal?

Was in Morrisons car park this morning, so decided to try and warm the car up while my parents went shopping. Despite running for over an hour, this was as hot as the engine got. Is this normal, or has my thermostat died?

Mine's doing the same at the moment. The morning run to work, 12 miles, hasn't seen the temp gauge go above quarter. Had a day off yesterday, sat in the car with a cup of coffee after shopping and again, the gauge didn't go further than yours. Plenty of heat though. Hopefully just the cold weather

Remember diesels do run a lot cooler than the petrol models.

Hmm . . . . surprised at a 1.8T running that cool, mine certainly didn't, came up to working temperature quite quickly no matter what time of year.

Looks to me you need the inline stat fitted David. I believe Steve (Arctic) has some and has done a how to, think it's on here somewhere so do a search. Also see what temperature it's running at on the obd, it's not a hard job to do and if you contact Steve he'll advise you I'm sure. Have you got a fbh on your car?

Cheers Steve, she's always been quick to come up to temp, just been the last couple of weeks since the colder weather that she hasn't.
Just a quick query while I think of it, (sorry Mr Bogbrush for hijacking your thread) but from a dead cold start, I assume it's normal for the ATC to take a couple of minutes to come on? The screen demist blasts out from the outset but the main heating doesn't kick in for a mile or 2. I assume this is because it waits until there is a bit of heat in the system before kicking air out. Its always done it, but is it right?

Your own stats are sticking open, made more evident by the cold weather.

I was thinking the same thing.

No FBH at the moment, although I do have a complete kit waiting to be fitted.

I wondered if my thermostat had gone awol a few years back. Took a long time to warm up when it was very cold. On the way to a funeral in Torquay I stopped and put the obd reading the temp and it was around 84-86 deg for most of the time, eccept for when going downhill and it went down to around 82-84 deg. I don’t think there is anything wrong with it.

These last few days of near-freezing weather, my CDT has taken an extra mile for the gauge to reach its usual 9 o' clock position which it maintains like it's stuck until I get to the other end of my mixed roads and motorway commute and switch off.
