Default Rear Exhaust for Rover 75 2.5 KV6 Auto

Good morning

I thought that once again I'd tap into the font of all knowledge that is the forum.

Its finally happened, after 15 years (and a few days) the rear box on my car has the dreaded rust moth attacking it and will need replacing (very soon).

I just want that V6 purr not the outrageous growl beloved by you MG boys!!!

Any advice welcomed on the better makes of the mild steel options and the cost/options of going stainless steel I cant afford a complete new system (the part would have to be sent via mail order if the supplier is not local to Sussex).

Is it also correct that there is an adaptor needed when they cut the back box off the old one piece system.

Cheers

If you're looking for a cheap replacement,i fitted a klarius back box on my 2.5v6 auto and it's nice and quiet. Got it off ebay for about £48.

If you want the best quality option, a stainless backbox made to fit from somewhere like a longlife dealer ia best. They can make the back box with down facing tail pipes just like the original and can make it to oem quiet sound levels

Thumbs up

MIJ Exhaust are making very fine stainless steel ones which aren't noisy at all.
I've just bought and fitted a complete exhaust line but they're doing back boxes as well. You can find them on Ebay.

I'm taking one off mine tomorrow morning as the sleeve puts the system fractionally out of line and makes it knock on the cross member above it. I'll be replacing it with the Klarius box I'd taken off after a few hundred miles because of the low-rev boom. Unless you do a lot of motorway driving most of your time in a V6, particularly an automatic, will be spent at less than 2200 revs which is where after market boxes are noisiest.

If you want a stainless system or part thereof you could talk to Redhill Classics (unsurprisingly located in Redhill) who can fabricate as much or as little of a system as you can afford.

Wink

What I find astonishing is that my MIJ exhaust is not at all noisy.
I didn't want my Lady Carlotta to become a nasty banging car but I should as well even confess I was (but just a little) disappointed not to hear a bit of a rasping or roaring sound with all that stainless steel!

Thnaks to all of you for your advice.

Probably the Klarius in the short term but interestingly there is a Longlife dealer in a small village about ten miles away.

Going to see him next week to get an idea of the price for a complete system.

I think without this forum life and my Rover would be a little bit more of a struggle!!
