Air con
Hi everyone.
I've been using my air con quite a bit recently & have noticed that it only blows cold when the revs are up. On tick over warm(ish) air has been coming through the vents but as soon as I pull away again the air turns cold(ish). Is this just a case of needing a re gas or could it be something like a loose belt. Regards, Wayne |

Do you mean you only get cold air thru the vents when you are moving? If so I'd suspect the low speed on the rad fan is away.

Hi Wayne,
I would suggest you check to see if the belt to the compressor is slack. Pete.

I'm putting it in for a service soon, so I'll get them to check the fan & the belt. A top up of gas won't go amiss either I suppose.
Thanks for the input. Wayne. |

You have the classic symptoms of a failed low speed fan. Checking it is as easy as pressing a button, so why not do it yourself!
There, you didn't need a garage for that did you? Simon

If over 90k miles and fan motor is the early type without resistor, for the AC to work properly you may need a new radiator fan and a condenser.
Cooling kits in stock @ £139 (2 speed with gold resistor) https://plus.google.com/photos/10767...Lvlj6LFuaShzgE Condensers and lots of info http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=68340 Until it's fixed don't use AC or the compressor will get overheated and damaged. (select ECON) Good luck Jules

Right, no fan noise coming from fan at front of engine bay. Is this a DIY job or a garage job.

Well that depends upon the level of your own DIY skills. You'll have to take off the bumper and, if you are good at electrics, you can repair what you've got (an upgraded resistor or new motor brushes). If you're not confident with wiring and a soldering iron, you'll be better off buying a replacement motor system from Jules. This requires only normal tools and Arctic has posted plenty of photographs of what's involved.
By the way, if your diesel has a 3 speed motor (no silver resistor visible through the radiator grille) then heed Jules' advice and don't use the air conditioning until you've repaired/replaced it. This is because a failed 3 speed system will give no cooling at all to the air conditioning condenser, and it should not be knowingly run in this condition. Simon
