Default driving to France

We are trying to work out the cost of driving to France in august with the caravan. The mileage is 350 miles each way at an avg speed of 60 to 70mph with the van in tow. What do you think the petrol cost would be ? Car is an mgztt 2.5 auto two adults two kids and all the gear. Thanks for the help

I would say a full tank there and just over a full tank back. You always boot it trying to get back!

If you're doing more than 60 mph then you are speeding and is also dangerous.

Expect 20 to the gallon, anything more is a bonus, and if you stop anywhere on route dont leave your car and van unattended or at least keep it in sight.

Enjoy your holiday.

Plan your route on Google Maps. It gives an estimated fuel cost (if you input the cost of the fuel) than you can adjust the figure given to account for having a V6 and caravan etc.

We were going to take the tent to France this year but bottled it in the end as we're still fairly new to camping. Mind you I will have a 350 mile drive to Cornwall instead.

France is the best place to camp in Europe IMHO head down to Royan for kids and beaches or drive the alps road between France and Switzerland for the grown ups, A little place called Le Grave where it was 30c in the village and after a trip up the mountains on two ski lifts to get out in the snow and instead of getting the lift back down we spent a few hours walking off the mountain.. Brilliant. Just do it.

Talking

A tank & a quarter each way. Doesn't really matter you'll be on Holiday.

yes you are limited to 50mph on single carriageway roads, and 60mph on dual carriageways/motorways, with a caravan in tow.if you have wheel clamp, and hitchlock, you need to put them on if you stop and leave your vehicle unattended.

If you are going to France, dontforget to have breakdown insurance. Will cost you arm and a leg if you breakdown and have to be repatriated to this country. Try More Than. I pay £84 00 the benefits are very good.
