Remaking the Titanic.
Australian Billionaire has commissioned a Chinese shipbuilder to remanufacture the Titanic for passenger service between England and New York. I am going to start saving! I can't help but think it would be better to call it something else though. I mean, its not going to be the Titanic, however gorgeous its going to be.. Still can't wait to see it. Shame it won't be built in Ireland.

Gives me a bit of time to save up! Shame its going to be diesel and not steam. Apparantly the bow is going to be rounder for greater fuel efficiency.

A journalist asked him if it was going to sink, he said yes, if it gets a big hole in the side!

I hate to think how much diesel will cost in 2016

Lets wish him well, most fly these days, the great and the good sailing on Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, SS United States etc. have long gone, that's why today Southampton docks is full of very large cruise ships. For sure he'll never get his money back on fares to New York / Southampton trans Atlantic route.

He says he is going to make four more. I hope he makes something like Aquitania as well. There is a really sad video on youtube in colour of Aquitania moored up, rust all over her white paint and then she steams off for the scrap yard. Another one of Olympic too. He could have captured a really niche market and I hope he does well out of it. I would much rather sail on an elegant classic looking ship rather than a floating block of flats.

Rivets? Compartment dividers that only go up to the cabin level? Double skin only on the keel but not up to the waterline. Enough lifeboats for half the peeps aboard? ..
UH OH ...... I will give it a miss... .. ... |
