Default wheel bearings

i have a small rumbling noise at speed which sounds like a wheel bearing starting to go , it gets worse when turning to the right which suggests its the nearside bearing , has anyone undertaken the job of changing the front wheel bearings yet , the car has done 125k now but i think they should last longer than that , as my old mondeo managed 280k without needing any wheel bearings at all, not quite as heavy as the rover but still had a diesel engine which is heavy. the rover manual suggests a press but i wondered if anyone has tried i different method ie a large vice....any advice apart from taking it to the dealers please....ian

Hello and welcome to the forum and club.

This is of no help, just an observation. I had a wheel bearing go on a Transit van at 6K from new. There is no accounting for a failure of this type, manufacturing fault that slipped through the quality control net. In 86K further miles and 14 years I had to replace a brake light bulb once. Normal sevicing excepted.

Someone will be along shortly to assist with your problem..

In 15 years of owning a car I've changed 2 headlight bulbs.
