Default Key package

I have just obtain a complete package of components off flee bay, all the components from the same vehicle

Components
Engine ECU
Body Control ECU
Immobiliser ECU
Drivers lock
Complete steering column from footwell gaiter to indicaters ( not included) ignition barrel and transponder ring
2 keys

The components can off a V6 2 litre whereas mine is a V6 2.5 litre. Will this kit need T4 because the engine ECU came off a 2 litre V6, or are they interchangable with the same engine settings and just a swap for the components on car at present.

The total kit cost me £45 and hopefully because of the 2 keys a cheap way of getting a second key

Hi,
I am 99% sure it will need re ZCS coding as a 2.0 or a 2.5 is specified in the GM data.

You may also find it does not recognise some of the things that your car has that the other one didn't. Or Vise versa .

That has to be done via T4 and someone who can generate ZCS data strings and checksums.

Xpart Autoservice centers can do this. Well, they can't create new coding strings but they have a process to obtain them from Xpart.

If you goto a service centre I doubt you'll get a total cost less than a new second key. You may want to have a chat with the members who have T4s. I think Corin (messenger) is your closest.

ZCS translations

ZCS = ZentraleCodierungsSystem ( German – translates to Central Coding System)

GM data = Grund Merkmal ( German – translates to Basic Feature)

SA data = SonderausstAttung (German – translates to Special Equipment)

VN data = VersionsNummer (German – translates to Version Number)

These are hexidecimal data strings that very basically turn features on or off and tell the car what it is looking for.

So, just for instance, If the car it all came from has airbag curtains and yours does not, the SRS self test will always leave the airbag light on as the ecu's are looking for something that is not fitted.

Same as if you have memory seats and donor didn't. Yours would no longer work.

Hope this explains it a bit.

Cheers

Not necessarily cheaper than a 2nd key because of the other work involved I'm afraid.

If you just fit the Ecu's as is then as Stu says above you could end up with all sorts of vehicle configuration problems due to the ZCS codes being different, besides the engine tune.

Even trying them temporarily can end up with a change to your existing coding that could result in things not working the way they used to

You cannot re-program the engine ECU or the immobiliser on T4 as they are a matched pair and once configured to the car cannot be altered

There will always be a vin mis-match that can cause problems with trying to re-configure the ECU's to match the original ZCS coding.

Well I think not, for a start you have a 2.5, so the 2 litre EMS ecu is no good, never mind the minefield of ZCS coding.
Best of luck however, as you could have posted me your immobiliser unit, and I would have programmed a new transponder for your existing car for the same price, and no nasty surprises either, not to mention considerably less work

Looks like I need to chalk this one up to not understand how complex this system is. Why do they need to make it so complex?
