Evening Rod, I was just showing Jessica your photo of the Honda, caravan at the site and it is a comfortable looking place to be The technology in your Honda for safe driving is impressive. With it being Japanese, I have similar on my 4x4.....The weather where you are, is better than it has been here today. This afternoon we had torrential rain and the temp dropped rapidly. There was nothing else to do, other than seek refuge under the duvet and watch the D-Day tributes on the box.

Here is a photo I took recently of one of the bees at work. Out in the bush, the leaves (out of shot) are called Kikuyu toilet paper, as they are used by the tribes for the purpose......

Keep posting when you can

G'day Phil - apologies for not responding earlier, but this is the first time I've popped into the LCOZ today. The Honda with a caravan is a well matched outfit - the car pulls well and is heavy enough to keep control of the 'van - it also has Vehicle Stability Assist & Trailer Stability Assist which help to control any sideways movement of the caravan by applying brakes to individual wheels if a 'snake' is detected. It is a long outfit - car and caravan when hitched up measure 11.67 metres (38' 3"); it's not physically hard to drive, but is quite tiring mentally, especially on motorways where I'm restricted to 60 mph, as you don't want to be making sudden manoeuvres with that length. You're constantly watching in front, both sides and behind for other vehicles which could affect you. Large vehicles, HGVs and coaches, overtaking you have two effects - a 'bow wave' effect as they start to overtake you, which causes you to be pushed towards the nearside, and then as they get alongside you, a sort of 'slipstream' effect.which 'sucks' you towards them. You're constantly needing to make very small steering adjustments - especially if there is a gusty side wind too.
I'll have a hunt to find a photograph of the unit all hitched up - the broadband on the site runs at around 0.7 mbps, so accessing Flickr isn't easy !

Here's a link to the site we're on - in Norfolk, between Fakenham and Cromer on the A148

Hey Ian - that looks suspiciously like what used to be ICI Wilton Site (now called Wilton Site since ICI ceased to exist) between Redcar and Middlesbrough. About 5 miles over the hills from me - far enough that we couldn't smell some of the obnoxious gases that used to escape from the site when there was a breakdown. Even now, if there is a problem, they get of excess gases by burning them through the tall stacks - leading to a midday at midnight sky.

Evening Rod Yes it's all around your neck o the woods, Thornaby depot, Darlington, saltburn by the sea, Redcar ore terminal, Lackenby steel works as it was in 1989, It's absolutely amazing.

Cool

We’ve had sunshine, torrential rain and evening sunset.

Just a couple of Rattlers to round the day off.

Regrettably Ian, most of the Lackenby Works and Redcar oil terminal are now virtual ghost sites. The big hope for the future is a deep potash and polyhalite mine located near to the hamlet of Sneatonthorpe, Whitby which would use the Ore Terminal at Redcar. Steel has reached the end of its production life in this area - there's no point producing something which no-one wants to buy at your price!
The frustrating part is that many of the steel plants across the world that now undercut us were built using British knowledge and expertise - a life long mate of mine spent 30 years helping build steelworks in South Africa, Northern China, Scandinavia and even America !!

I agree, having spent every summer of my childhood holidaying in the area, I used to go to sleep watching the flames from the stacks, out of the caravan window.

Evening all, turned out to be a nice sunny day after all, clouds over later on but stayed dry. Turns out I had only been doing 6 miles on my previous bike rides, tonight I did 10. First 3 miles non stop in 12 minutes, then stopped for 10 min rest ,and completed the second 2 miles in 15 mins, as there were a couple of uphill stretches. Stopped for 20 min rest then did the whole 5 mile return trip in 26 mins.Quite pleased with that, want to try and get it down to 20 mins each way non stop.
