I recently fitted the kit from Matt:

The most difficult bit was getting the original "hose clip" off as it's just a band of metal, not a jubilee type clip that can be undone.

I'm sure the thermostat shout is right however when I had my diesels one of them did this. It turned out to be a faulty rad cap that had allowed all the coolant to steam out. There was no coolant in the car so I ended up with no heating and the gauge never went above where that one is. Worth a check.
