Default Heres an interesting one

Was just nosing through a youtube vid about the Rover 75.

And It says that grease should never be used on the drop link ball joints ( if indeed I've understood correctly )

I've had loads of these drop links fail on my two 75s and note on here all the comments about not enough grease on the new ones etc etc. and I'm certainly not disputing the wisdom of the experts on here at all.

But it seems strange that the official Rover video mentions not to use grease at all, unless of course I've totally misunderstood what I was watching.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpHXvKw4XNY

The suspension mention is at 27.48

Interesting indeed.

Maybe when the video was made the quality of replacement parts was excellent so there was no question of needing to do anything except fit them.

Now, however, the quality, or lack of it, of replacement parts is the subject of many, many threads and is leading to owners scrapping cars because they're fed up with replacing stuff they've already (recently) replaced.

I'll take the guru's like marinabrian etc. etc. suggestions every time.

Andy.

Hi Kevin.
I think the video is saying that the drop links do not need to be greased as in the old days when a grease nipple was available, i could be wrong, but that is how i interpreted the explanation.

Some greases can interact with the modern "plastics" used in ball joints. Replacements of "OEM" quality can be hard to source (as with most car parts these days! Don't get me started about "quality" car parts!).

Good grief look at the expansion tank at 3.11, could you imagine having a bottle where the level could be checked without removing the cap

Anyone fancy replicating the scene at 6.16?, if so I can oblige with a TestBook 1 with the new red lead and dedicated Rover 75 CD

By the way, the reference to not greasing is in regard to the anti roll bar "D" bushes, not the drop links

There you go then, that explains that anomaly.

As above, no greasing refers to the anti roll bar bushes, not links, see also mention of rear at about 28.00.
