I've connected and disconnected the batteries on these cars literally hundreds of times and have never had any issues.
The problem only seems to happen when using booster packs or jump starting. Russ

My personal order of choice is based on avoiding connection/disconnection to an operational alternator as much a possible in order to reduce the likelihood of a spike resulting from inductive or regulation components reacting to the sudden load changes. So, circumstances allowing, my order of preference for starting a car with a discharged battery is as follows: 1. Remove battery, charge, reconnect. 2. Use an intelligent maintenance type charger in situ for a few hours. 4. Use my spare fully-charged battery as a source for a jump start. 5. Use a power pack as the source. 6. Jump start car to car, with the donor car's engine switched off. Last edited by MSS; 8th November 2018 at 07:58.. |

And here is the reply from the AA:
"Thank you for your email. It has been logged against the above Service Request Number. I can confirm our Motoring Department have advised, as far as they can see, the two instructions are consistent: Donor vehicle has good battery Your vehicle has dead battery 1. Red to good + 2. Red to dead + 3. Black to good - 4. Black to dead earth 5. Black from dead earth (yours) 6. black from good - (other) 7. Red from dead + (yours) 8. Red from good + (other) If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me." So there we have it. I'm somewhat confused about why they didn't just give the instructions from 1 to 8 as that is easy to follow? Andy. |
